Key areas of research: study of post-vaccination immunity; molecular and immunological aspects of diagnostics; prevention and treatment of coronavirus infection; development of antiviral agents based on small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules; molecular and cellular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of respiratory syncytial virus infection and bronchial asthma; molecular mechanisms of allergy; new approaches to allergen specific immunotherapy; anti-cytokine therapy of allergies; development of allergy vaccines; application of RNAi-based therapeutics to treat allergies.

Awards: Musa R. Khaitov holds the Russian Government Award for achievements in science and technology awarded to young scientists. He received a Letter of Gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation “for the contribution to the organisation and management of social support measures for citizens during the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic in the Russian Federation”. In addition, he earned a Letter of Gratitude from the Healthcare Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the 7th convocation “for the active legislative work towards health protection of Russian citizens”. Musa R. Khaitov is decorated with the Golden Cross of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency and the Medal for the Contribution to Science of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency. He is a recipient of the Medal of Luke of the Crimea, the Golden Medal and the Diploma of the Russian Society for Immunology, and the Honorary Chemist Badge of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. He received the Mechnikov Award of the Russian Academy of Sciences for his works on molecular immunology and allergology.
