Sergey V. Borisevich, Cand. Sci. (Med.), Dr. Sci. (Biol.), Professor of Virology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Head of the 48 Central Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
Research interests: virology, epidemiology, chemotherapy for viral infections, biotechnology, and immunology.
Key areas of research: study of biological properties of causative agents of dangerous and particularly dangerous viral infections; development of diagnostic kits and therapeutic and prophylactic agents for testing for causative agents of particularly dangerous, dangerous, and exotic viral infections, as well as for their prevention and treatment; epidemiology of arboviral and rickettsial infections.
Key research accomplishments:
Sergey V. Borisevich created the scientific school of counteraction to biological threats from terrorist organisations. He directed the development and practical implementation of 28 diagnostic kits for the real-time PCR detection of RNA (DNA) of biological agents of pathogenicity groups I–II (according to the Russian classification) or groups 3 and 4 (according to the World Health Organisation classification). Sergey V. Borisevich developed and justified an influenza treatment and prevention scheme, using Ingavirin® and Triazavirin®. Two doctoral dissertations and six candidate theses were prepared under his counselling and supervision.
Publication activity (according to RISC): Sergey V. Borisevich is the author of over 300 publications in scientific journals, as well as 2 monographs, 5 guidelines, 4 methodological recommendations, and 42 patents.
Hirsch index: 11 (Scopus); 19 (RISC), with a percentile rank of 1 according to the RISC core collection rating.
Awards: Sergey V. Borisevich holds the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology (2020). He is decorated with the medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland (2006), the Order of Honour (2011), and the Order of Alexander Nevsky (2021).
